Heart-Centered Therapy for Children, Teens & Parents

Integrative, trauma and attachment focused counselling and play therapy

About Kaya

Kaya Winney (Dip.Couns., MSc Oxon, DipEd, BA) is an integrative child and adolescent counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) working in Oxfordshire with children from the age of 5, teenagers, young adults, and parents. She completed a four year counselling degree at Terapia London, which is of the UK leading Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Counselling organisations. Kaya has over 18 years of experience working with children, young people and parents within the charity sector, education settings and private practice, first as an teacher and for the past 7 years as a counsellor.

Kaya is aware that children experience and express emotions differently from adults, often through their (mis)behaviour, play and physical symptoms (often psycho-somatic pain) rather than words alone. Integrative counselling acknowledges this by combining talking therapy, play & art therapy approaches, as well as somatic techniques (mindful movement, breath). This multi-modality approach allows children explore their feelings in a more enjoyable and accessible way, adjusted to their level of cognitive ability and emotional development.

Kaya also offers inner child sessions to adults, incorporating play, art, movement, and energy psychotherapy to reconnect with the wounded parts of the self. Inner child work helps uncover deep – seated emotional patterns from client’s childhood that often still shape their thoughts, behaviours, and impact on current relationships.

Kaya offers a safe, warm, compassionate and non-judgmental environment where children can feel seen, heard and understood. She has an up-to-date DBS check, adheres to the BACP code of ethics, and follows strict safeguarding policies to ensure the highest standards of professional care.

Client Testimonials

“Kaya is a wonderful therapist. She is kind, grounding and very intuitive. In our sessions, she is able to very quickly identify the key emotional content of what I bring each week. This means we have gotten directly to the core issues that have been manifesting in my life for a very long time, which is exactly what I have hoped for in therapy.  For me, the combination of psychotherapy and energy/body work is perfect.  We're not just talking about current situations, but integrating how the past is informing them and allowing me to let go of what I don't need any more. I always feel that I am receiving deep listening as well as deep healing. I can't recommend her therapy highly enough!".”

"Kaya has been fantastic in supporting my daughter who had been traumatised by excessive bullying, particularly at the start of her secondary schools. She had had seen two other therapists and had lost faith in therapy by the time she met Kaya with whom she connected instantly. Her work was structured and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any parent whose teenage child struggles making sense of power & relationships in secondary schools. She had a session with us at the end of her therapy sessions and our family life has improved so much, to a significant extent thanks to advice we received from her and to a better understanding of our child."

Kaya, I'd like to thank you for all the help and support you have provided me with over the past couple of months. From our first meeting until today, you've guided me though multiple dark times, and allowed me to gain confidence within myself as well as providing a safe and welcoming environment for me to express my thoughts and feelings! Your guidance has also opened me up to new perspectives of life, giving me the tools I need to achieve my goals and take up opportunities I would previously turned down... your empathy was truly life changing and I will never forget how much you've done for me."
